September 20, 2013

Good morning! Not only did I get up earlier than usual today, but I even got some extra sleep in. Yesterday I got the mail, cleaned the house, went for a walk around the neighborhood, took the dogs out, the FD got toned out to an odor investigation, I did laundry, looked for specific CPR materials that I used to have & couldn't find them anywhere & couldn't remember it if was a book, a paper, a file ... but whatever it was, it's gone now. When I finally gave up looking for the materials, I decided to sit down & relax w/ my braided mile-a-minute afghan that I'm working on. Yesterday's Sims game was 7 Towers & my Sim Xavier has been working on his gardening. This morning I took the dogs out & loaded up Nottingham. My Sim Queen (2nd gen) is still a toddler & her parents are going to be reading her books to increase her skills.

Dirty Dozen:
The health benefits of a diet rich in fruits and vegetables outweigh the risks of pesticide exposure. Use EWG's Shopper's Guide to Pesticides™ to reduce your exposures as much as possible, but eating conventionally-grown produce is far better than not eating fruits and vegetables at all. The Shopper's Guide to Pesticides in Produce™ will help you determine which fruits and vegetables have the most pesticide residues and are the most important to buy organic. You can lower your pesticide intake by avoiding the 12 most contaminated fruits and vegetables and choosing the least contaminated produce.
For the second year, we have expanded the Dirty Dozen™ with a Plus category to highlight two crops – domestically-grown summer squash and leafy greens, specifically kale and collards. These crops did not meet traditional Dirty Dozen™ criteria but were commonly contaminated with pesticides exceptionally toxic to the nervous system.
Though the Environmental Protection Agency has been restricting the uses of the most toxic pesticides, they are still detected on some foods. For example, green beans were on last year's Plus list because they were often contaminated with two highly toxic organophosphates. Those pesticides are being withdrawn from agriculture. But leafy greens still show residues of organophosphates and other risky pesticides. That's why they are on the Plus list for 2013.
Tests in 2008 found that some domestically-grown summer squash – zucchini and yellow crookneck squash -- contained residues of harmful organochlorine pesticides that were phased out of agriculture in the 1970s and 1980s but that linger on some farm fields.
Genetically modified plants, or GMOs, are not often found in the produce section of grocery stores. Field corn, nearly all of which is produced with genetically modified seeds, is used to make tortillas, chips, corn syrup, animal feed and biofuels. Because it is not sold as a fresh vegetable, it is not included in EWG's Shopper's Guide to Pesticides in Produce. Nor is soy, another heavily GMO crop that makes its way into processed food.
The genetically modified crops likely to be found in produce aisles of American supermarkets are zucchini, Hawaiian papaya and some varieties of sweet corn. Most Hawaiian papaya is GMO. Only a small fraction of zucchini and sweet corn are GMO. Since U.S. law does not require labeling of GMO produce, EWG advises people who want to avoid it to purchase the organically-grown versions of these items.

Good afternoon! Perfect day yesterday. I didn't go any crafting, but I got a lot done. I chatted on the phone, got a package from UPS, got the mail, made a bagel for breakfast, the FD got toned out to a med call, I cleaned the house, took the dogs out, catalog shopped, surfed Pinterest, updated my schedule for 2 people's job hours this coming week (I'm their ride), cleared my Outlook & AOL e-mail accounts,
had dinner, & looked through my old My Documents backup CD. Other big news for yesterday was the release of IOS7. I love it! I updated both my iPhone 5 & my iPad mini. The new features are great & iTunes Radio is one of the great additions. Yesterday's Sims game was Northmont & my Sim Quinn is still a child in school, he's been going to classes. This morning I took the dogs out & loaded up a brand new game in Sims. This

one is called 7 Towers (1st - 3rd pics) & is built by a talented other. My Sim is Xavier (1st gen). He's a green thumb, a loser, eccentric, a coward, & a vehicle enthusiast. His lifetime wish is to have the perfect garden. He doesn't need to go to the university since he's working at home as a self employed gardener. He's going to concentrate only on his gardening skill. He likes fruit parfait, custom music, & the color blue. He's a Virgo. His furry companion & Xanadu, an Oriental Shorthair who's piggy, a genius, & destructive. Xavier has been gardening.

Because you really listen, you become influencable. And being influenceable is the key to influencing others.

Good morning! Yesterday was a good day. I made egg salad for breakfast, cleaned the house, the FD got toned out to a med call, I took a walk around the neighborhood, the FD got toned out to another med call, my Avon delivery came, I got the mail, paid the bills, showered, updated my iPhone 5 apps & checked out the Reminders app that came w/ the phone, took the dogs out, went dress shopping, & then settled down in front of my knitting machine to work on the Jewel of the Andes afghan I'm making on there (2nd pic). I actually managed to stay in yesterday. WOO! Don't get me wrong, I like going out ... but not EVERY day. I enjoy quiet days at home once in a while & finally got one yesterday. :)
Yesterday's Sims game was Glencove & my Sim Hazel is in the university on an apprentice fine arts award. She's been going to classes. This morning I took the dogs out & loaded up Northmont, one of my better houses that I built & one of my favorites of the one's I built. A lot went into this house & I was careful to make the style & landscaping match that of the house next door so that it doesn't clash as far as style. It looks great! My Sim Quinn is still a child & has been going to school.

Good morning! I'm up early & late. What I mean is, we went to bed really late last night, so I woke up late this morning, but didn't get a full night's sleep so am up early compared to what time I SHOULD have slept to considering the time we went to bed. Confused yet? LOL! Yesterday was a perfect day. I made French toast for breakfast, cleaned the house, went for a walk, showered, took the dogs out, had bologna on toast for lunch, checked out sales on flatware, went shopping, played Bejeweled on the Wii, then settled down on the sofa for the evening to work on my crocheted Blacklight Beauty afghan. That didn't last long though, because I had to go to work, then stopped at QT for fuel & roller-food dinner, went & did some work at the other house, then headed back out to work. Yesterday's Sims game was LizC864 4 & my Sim Christine is a child in school & working on her logic & painting skills which will serve her well in the university & then the military or law enforcement careers someday. She has the brave trait which is good for both. This morning I took the dogs out & loaded up Remington, my favorite in-game house. By in-game, I mean it's one of the houses that comes in Riverview. It's not one that I built or that was built by someone else, downloaded, & then added to the game. It was already there & it's beautiful! My Sim Michael Jones (2nd gen) is in the university towards a technology degree.

Good morning! Our son is employed! He's at work right now ... his 1st 15 minutes at work as of typing this sentence ... only 50 years to go! :) I'm so proud. Yesterday I had Tootie Fruities for breakfast, got the mail, did my 40 minutes on the treadmill, went to work, grabbed Jack in the Box for lunch, came back & showered, took the dogs out, & then settled down on the sofa to work on my Bavarian crochet (3rd pic). It's coming along beautifully isn't it? :) The 2nd pic was taken at Christmas in S.C. Yep, that's me on the the left ... hugging a sofa pillow that was originally where I'm sitting & there was nowhere else to put it because it was a packed house. :) THANK YOU to whoever took this picture, there aren't usually a lot of photos of me floating around out there unless I take them myself. Yesterday's Sims game was the Nectar Making
career & my Sim Tony is in the university getting his science & medicine degree. This morning I took the dogs out & loaded up Charmed Manor. Neo Matthews was just born, he's Paige Matthews' grandson. Neo is a loner, friendly, a Sagittarius who likes classical music, vegetarian lobster thermidore, & the color aqua. That's 2 babies in the house now ... As soon as the 3rd of 3 in the 2nd generation ages up into a young adult (tomorrow morning in game time, I'm going to send all 3 to the university. Since time freezes for the rest of the family who aren't in the university, there will still be 2 babies at home & when they all return from the university, the 3rd of 3 in the 2nd generation will marry & have her baby ... making it a full 3rd generation of babies. growing up together in the Halliwell Manor.

"Good neighborhood playgrounds. Fun places to go if it rained. Restaurants that didn't turn up their noses at children... the application finds nearby restaurants, parks, museums and play spaces that are mom-tested, kid-approved." sfgate.com

My Medical:
My Medical is a comprehensive record-keeping app for your personal medical information. It's the perfect replacement for unreliable paper records or various electronic systems that hold bits and pieces of your medical history. With My Medical, any and all information that is important to you is kept together in one place.
Have a Mac or iPhone? Search the Mac App Store for our desktop version, or search here for "My Medical" and get our iPhone/iPod touch version now.
* It's for the whole family *
My Medical isn't just one medical record. You can keep as many records as you want. Use it for a spouse or aging parents. Use it to keep immunization records for your children. Use it to look after a special needs child. Doctors: use My Medical to maintain notes about your patients.
* 21st century record-keeping *
At heart, My Medical is a thorough database that's yours to control and change. But it's nice to have some help, which is why the app offers autocompletion and autosuggestion for a wealth of medical jargon, including prescription drug names; vaccinations; common afflictions; life support options; laboratory units; and much more. That means more time keeping track of what's important, and less time trying to remember (or spell) the name of that medication.
* A medical record and more *
Areas for emergency contacts, health insurance, doctors' contact information, and other data that are not strictly part of a traditional personal health record (PHR) are all available. And if you already have medical contacts in your address book, then perfect, because My Medical can import it in the tap of a finger. There's no need to retype it all.
* And it works with your calendar *
My Medical will automatically put doctor's appointments and upcoming lab tests on your calendar. You can even set reminder alarms directly from the app, without ever going into your calendar.
* A digital file cabinet *
What about photographs, labwork, x-rays and other important documents that can't be typed directly in? My Medical devotes an entire area to extra files that can be attached to your record. Not only that, you can tie files to particular items anywhere within your information. So add a picture of the pill next to a medication. Keep a copy of your insurance card alongside a provider's contact information.
* From blood tests to X-rays *
My Medical provides a range of common test result templates for you to track test results. To name just a few: blood pressure; cholesterol; metabolic panels; blood sugar; CAT scan; height and weight. If that isn't enough, construct and customize your own test results to keep track of exactly what you need.
* Visualize it *
Chart test results with sophistication and discover trends overr time. With the charting feature you can view multiple graphs simultaneously and even see moving averages to uncover long term changes.
* It's secure *
Unlike most other health record applications, data is stored right on your device, not on remote servers. As a further safety measure, you may require a password in order to view all or certain parts of your information.
* In case of emergency *
My Medical is a valuable aid for EMTs, first responders, or those who may need to quickly find out emergency instructions. Even if you have password-protected the app, certain information is made accessible in the event of an emergency.
* Get the word out *
Sharing your information has never been easier. Generate a report of all or part of your record and email it straightaway. Or export it as a Microsoft Excel-readable spreadsheet. Or you can always send your info to the printer to make a hard copy.
* Sharing *
Our mobile and Mac apps are fully compatible and you can seamlessly send data between them over a wireless network (WiFi). They can also be backed up for safekeeping. If your device is lost or replaced, your information is easily restored.

Friday the 13th 2013

Good morning! Yesterday was a surprise day off & I got to work on my new favorite knit project, the Entrelac knit afghan (2nd pic). I started out w/ cleaning the house, then 40 minutes on the treadmill, got the mail, tried to go to work but they were closed ... 2 in the afternoon & the place was deserted. WTH? No wonder I'm not making any money. I've gotten there between noon & 1 & the boss' side was open, but the 2nd door, where my booth was, has been notoriously closed ... until I get there & THEN they open it up for the day. Then yesterday the place was completely locked down & closed, so I give up. I've put a LOT of time & effort into this in hopes of making some money, but I can't do that if my side (or the whole place) is closed all the time. I'm paying rent which was for a set amount of hours, but we're not even close. Since I have all
the tables & clothing racks, & Avon catalogs, & stock ... I think it's time to seek out another consignment shop. One that's open when they're supposed to be. Until then, I'm back to crafting in the afternoons around my housecleaning, workout, transportation job, & mom taxi. Wow did I miss crocheting & knitting! You have no idea. After I got back from the booth (which was closed), I took the dogs out, had lunch, went through & sorted my PDF file collection, cleaned the stovetop, & then worked on my entrelac knitting. Don't you just love that pattern? Like Bavarian crochet, it LOOKS like it's little individual squares, but it isn't, it's all done in 1 piece. I love the entrelac because it looks like a basketweave. Very clever pattern & a lot easier than I expected. Yesterday's Sims game was the Graveyard job. My Sim Daniel has been taking care of their baby daughter Christine (2nd gen) & just chillin' out around the house & learning new skills to pass the time. This morning I took the dogs out & then headed off to work at my transportation assistant job. Today's Sims game is the Nectar Maker career. My Sim Tony is currently in the university towards a science & medicine degree.
